What happens when a widely recognized graphic symbol becomes broken of disfigured? If we change the symbol for something does the thing itself change? Can a symbol have manipulative control over what it signifies? I found that the distortion of the symbol of the "house" was multiplied and magnified when translated to 3d form.
This distortion of the symbolic and the familiar lead me to a new form of geometric collage in architecture through the hybridization of building typologies - that of the small scale and common single family home within the dense urban setting of Brooklyn. At the intersection of these familiar forms, playful, foreign, and disturbing new geometries emerge. By taking these forms and reconfiguring, reassembling, and exaggerating them, it begins to brings vulgarity to vernacular.
